8 months. That is dangerously close to One Year. How did that happen? On the agenda this month: growing more teeth, rejecting every bit of food that mommy makes, and CRAWLING. She's not there yet, but she is SO close:
In other news, it's HOT. Just plain hot. THIS hot:
So hot, that you just want to pass out: Or hang out in nothing but a diaper: Peter stays cool: Am I the only one who sees a little George (Willett) in there?Hmmm.
We did make it up to a particularly pretty (and cooler) spot in the mountains (Salmon Creek and Sardine Lake, near the Sierra Buttes) for a couple of days last weekend, and Erika took a couple of pictures of Karolina's First Camping Trip before the battery in her camera died:
She was a trooper! Slept in the tent, no problem. Well, slept in the tent the same way she sleeps at home (she hasn't quite mastered the whole sleeping through the night thing).
We did find a way to keep Peter out of trouble while simultaneously keeping the bears out of our food.
Don't worry, we let him out for meals. And fishing. The kid is really learning how to fish! He knows the rules: stay quiet, and don't use the fishing pole as a weapon. He is looking forward to getting the Advanced Course from Papi in September.
We (the humans in our family, NOT me) are still eating lots of greens. For Sunday dinner we had Kale and Toasted Coconut salad with Farro, Collard Greens, and Lettuce Salad with Lemon Tahini dressing. I can hear Uncle Dave cringing, and dad asking "Where's the MEAT?"
We seem to be eating in themes. 4th of July dinner was Peach-Mint-Bourbon cocktails, followed by hamburgers (with greens) and a turnip-carrot mash, with a grand finale of Peach Cobbler. Yes, we over picked at the U-pick that morning, but who can resist perfectly ripe, sun-warmed PEACHES??? Martin's theme this weekend was turnips: he ate 13 raw turnips over the course of two days. Small ones, but really, he did. Thirteen. Peter ate one. He prefers his radishes.
I'm sticking to cat food.
